Environment-focused Cook has oil investments - Do the voters care?

April 14th, 2008, 10:52 am · Post a Comment · posted by Michael Doss

Cindy Carcamo has a great story today about Debbie Cook’s recent statement of economic interests filing, and the large number of oil investments she has. From the article:

In 2007, the Huntington Beach mayor reported at least $52,000 of stock in oil giants — such as Chevron, BP, Exxon and Shell, according to state documents.

Cook, a Democrat, is campaigning to unseat Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, incumbent for the 46th Congressional District.

The article continues with a good discussion from experts about how this may hurt her political chances, both due to environmentalists not caring for her investment and the contradictory nature of her choices. The LAV believes her opponents will use this more than anyone actually considering voting for her, but that’s the way the game is played, more often than not. What do you think?

Will Congressional candidate Debbie Cook be hurt by her oil investments?
