Chipotle pledges hormone-free dairy products by end of year

Nancy Luna, the Register’s “Fast Food Maven” has this tasty tidbit today about my favorite upscale quick-service fast food restaurant and yours:

Chipotle Mexican Grill said it is scrapping the use of cheese made from milk produced by cows treated with synthetic hormones.chipotle_logoweb.jpg

Wow, that’s a mouthful to say. In other words, the chain plans to serve only hormone-free dairy ingredients. It already serves hormone-free sour cream, and milk. The cheese switch will include all 58 Chipotle restaurants in Southern California, including those in Orange County.

Chipotle is considered one of the most progressive fast food chains when it comes to serving natural foods. So this is a logical next step for the Denver-based burrito chain. Chipotle began serving 100 percent rBGH-free sour cream last year, and has since, shifted its focus to cheese, the company said this week. rBGH is an artificial hormone that stimulates milk production in dairy cattle.

Good show! As I posted there, people tend to overlook the progressive stuff that Chipotle does because the food remains fantastic at the same time. They’re a business I can get behind in terms of politics and deliciousness. Burritos for everyone!
